Recall 17V379 covers 92 2013-2015 BMW 7 Series vehicles with incorrect left rear taillights. Repair is free at any franchised BMW dealer.
BMW is recalling 92 2013-2015 740I, 750I, and Activehybrid 7 vehicles because some received the wrong replacement left rear taillight assembly. The wrong lamp makes the vehicle less visible to other drivers and raises crash risk; BMW dealers will inspect and replace incorrect assemblies free of charge.

What's wrong?
The left rear taillight assembly on the 2013-2015 BMW 750I, Activehybrid 7, 740LXI, 740I, 750LXI, 750LI, 740LI, and 750XI is the rear lamp unit on the driver's side. It holds the rear lighting and a reflex reflector, a passive reflector that sends another vehicle's headlights back toward the driver even when your BMW is parked or the lamps are off.
The problem is not wear from normal driving. During a dealer service visit, an affected BMW received an incorrect replacement left rear lamp assembly. That replacement assembly was built without the required reflex reflector, so the rear of the vehicle lacks part of the exterior-lighting equipment it was designed to carry.
There is no warning sign before failure. The lights can still appear to work, and the missing reflector is easy to overlook unless the lamp assembly is inspected or compared with the correct part.

What's the safety risk?
Incorrect left rear lamp assemblies make the vehicle less conspicuous to other drivers and increase the risk of a crash. Watch for lighting that looks different from the opposite side, then schedule the inspection and replacement soon. Repair is free at any franchised BMW dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2013-2015 BMW 750I, Activehybrid 7, 740LXI, 740I, 750LXI, 750LI, 740LI, or 750XI is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised BMW dealer to schedule the free inspection and left rear taillight assembly replacement if the wrong assembly is installed.
- Bring the recall notice if BMW mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V379 when you call.
- Use extra care at night or in low visibility until the taillight assembly is inspected and repaired.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a BMW technician inspects the left rear taillight assembly and replaces it if the vehicle received the incorrect part. The recall repair is free, and BMW covers the replacement parts and labor. BMW's standard reimbursement plan covers documented out-of-pocket repairs related to this taillight issue. Keep any repair invoices or payment records and ask BMW customer service or the dealer how to submit documented expenses.
