What's wrong?

The air brake system on a 2018 Great Dane Everest SS refrigerated trailer uses air pressure to apply the service brakes during normal stops. At the road-side front brake chamber, a service port and brass tee give access to that brake chamber, and a small pipe plug seals the tee so brake pressure stays in the system.

On affected trailers, that pipe plug was not tightened correctly at the Wayne, Nebraska plant. If the plug loosens enough to leak, air pressure can escape from the front brake chamber service port. Lower service brake pressure means the trailer does not brake as strongly as designed, which can make stopping distances longer and can contribute to loss of control or a crash.

There is no warning sign before failure. A driver or technician can find the issue by inspecting the road-side front brake chamber area for a loose plug or air leakage, but the recall does not identify a driver-noticeable symptom before the leak starts.

What's the safety risk?

Reduced service brake pressure can make the 2018 Great Dane Everest SS need more distance to stop, increasing the risk of a crash. What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Great Dane technician checks the front brake chamber service port and the diagnostic tee. The technician tightens the tee pipe plug or removes the tee so the service brake system can hold the intended pressure. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Ask the service desk to confirm the trailer is included before the work begins.
