2015-2017 Isuzu Npr/Nqr/Nrr Recall 17V105: Frame Burrs

Recall 17V105 affects 21,000 2015-2017 Isuzu Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, and Npr Hd trucks for transmission-mount stud failure. Repair is free at franchised Isuzu dealers.

Isuzu is recalling 21,000 2015-2017 Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, and Npr Hd trucks because burrs on the transmission frame crossmember can break the transmission mounting studs. Broken studs can leave the transmission improperly supported, interfere with shifting, and increase crash risk; Isuzu dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The transmission mount on 2015-2017 Isuzu Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, and Npr Hd trucks attaches the transmission to a frame crossmember, a structural beam under the truck. The mounting studs are threaded fasteners that hold that assembly tight so the transmission stays aligned while the truck accelerates, shifts, and carries load.

On affected trucks, the frame crossmember was stamped with burrs, which are sharp raised edges left on the metal during manufacturing. Those burrs press against the transmission mounting studs and create stress in the fasteners. Over time, that stress fatigue can break the studs, letting the transmission drop from its normal mounted position and contact nearby underbody parts.

The warning signs are noticeable once the stud bolts break. The driver will feel a jolt when the transmission drops, then hear substantial noise if it contacts surrounding parts. The truck can become harder to shift, and the engine can de-rate, while vehicle controllability is not affected.

Who's affected?

Covers four Isuzu medium duty truck models from 2015, 2016, and 2017, across frame and powertrain components.

Field incidentsNHTSA has logged no field incidents to date.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the mounting studs break, the transmission can drop, shift incorrectly, and raise crash risk. A jolt, substantial underbody noise, harder shifting, or engine de-rating means stop in a safe place and arrange service or towing. Controllability is not affected. Repair is free at any franchised Isuzu dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2015-2017 Isuzu Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, or Npr Hd truck is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Isuzu dealer to schedule the free frame-crossmember inspection and metal-shim installation that protects the transmission mounting studs.
  3. Reference recall number 17V105 when you call, and ask the dealer about driving precautions if the truck does not shift correctly.
  4. Bring the owner letter if Isuzu mailed one, or give the service desk recall number 17V105 at check-in.
  5. Avoid driving the truck if it does not shift correctly before the repair; call the dealer for instructions.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, an Isuzu technician inspects the truck and installs a metal shim at the transmission crossmember area to reduce stress on the mounting studs. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Isuzu has a general reimbursement plan on file for eligible owner-paid repairs before the recall notice. If you already paid for a related repair, ask the service desk how to submit documentation under that plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 17V105?

Recall 17V105 covers 21,000 2015-2017 Isuzu Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, and Npr Hd trucks with burrs on the frame crossmember where the transmission mounts. The burrs can break transmission mounting studs, leaving the transmission unsupported and affecting shifting.

What should I do if my 2015-2017 Isuzu Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, or Npr Hd is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 17V105. If it is, contact a franchised Isuzu dealer to schedule the inspection and metal-shim installation. Reference recall number 17V105 when you call. The repair is free.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to perform safety recall repairs at no cost, and Isuzu dealers will inspect the truck and install the metal shim free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for included vehicles.

What is the safety risk?

The risk is that broken transmission mounting studs can leave the transmission improperly supported. If that happens, the truck can stop shifting correctly and crash risk increases. Recall 17V105 does not include a do-not-drive order, but included trucks still need the dealer repair.

What if I bought my Isuzu truck used?

The free repair still applies. Safety recalls follow the vehicle, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific 2015-2017 Isuzu Nrr, Nqr, Npr Xd, or Npr Hd is included, then call an Isuzu dealer with recall number 17V105.
