Gasoline on a hot exhaust system can raise the risk of a fire, and Lamborghini dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The fuel system on the 2012-2017 Lamborghini Aventador includes an EVAP system, short for evaporative emissions control. Its job is to hold fuel vapors from the tank in a carbon canister, then route those vapors through purge valves so the engine burns them instead of venting them outside the car. A roll over valve also helps control fuel movement from the tank.
On affected Aventadors, a full or heavily overfilled tank, combined with certain maneuvers, can overwhelm that system. Liquid gasoline reaches the purge valves instead of staying in the tank and vapor canister. Once the canister is saturated or the purge valves malfunction, fuel or fuel vapor can move where it should not. Lamborghini found that gasoline can contact hot exhaust parts, especially with over-revving at idle or an aftermarket exhaust that produces large flames.
Owners can see a malfunction indicator light when purge valves malfunction. A gas smell outside the car is another warning sign.

What's the safety risk?
Gasoline that reaches an ignition source, including a hot exhaust system, increases the risk of a fire. If the malfunction indicator light comes on or you smell gas outside the car, park safely and contact a Lamborghini dealer for guidance. Repair is free at any franchised Lamborghini dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Lamborghini technician upgrades the fuel tank's evaporative emissions system. The repair is available now, and the parts and labor are free under the recall. Lamborghini also has a general reimbursement plan on file for eligible out-of-pocket repairs paid before the recall notice. If you already paid for a related fuel tank or evaporative emissions repair, bring your receipts and repair paperwork to the service desk and ask how to submit them under that plan.
