Recall 17V055 affects 11 2014-2015 Advance Engineered Dry Bulk Cargo Tank trailers for delayed spring-brake application. Advance Engineered provides free remedy kits.

Advance Engineered is recalling 11 2014-2015 Dry Bulk Cargo Tank trailers under recall 17V055 because certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves have a machining problem that delays spring brake application while parking. A delayed brake application can let the trailer roll away after decoupling from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash or injury; the dealer repair is free.

What's wrong?

The Bendix SR-5 spring brake valve on 2014-2015 Advance Engineered Dry Bulk Cargo Tank trailers is part of the air brake parking system. It helps control air pressure so the trailer's spring brakes release for travel and apply when the trailer is parked. When that valve seals and routes air correctly, the parking brakes respond when the driver sets them.

On affected trailers, Bendix left out a check valve in an air control port inside the service side of the valve piston. That missing check valve allows an internal air leak. With air leaking through the valve, spring brake application while parking is delayed, so the trailer does not hold as quickly as designed.

Owners and drivers can hear or observe air leakage at the Bendix SR-5 spring brake valve. Air leakage also shows up at the tractor park control valve exhaust or at the tractor protection valve.

What's the safety risk?

A delayed spring brake application can let the trailer roll after it decouples from the tractor, increasing crash or injury risk. Listen for air leakage at the Bendix SR-5 spring brake valve, tractor park control valve exhaust, or tractor protection valve and schedule the repair promptly. Repair is free at any franchised Advance Engineered dealer.
