Recall 17V030 covers 977,708 2006-2012 Honda and Acura vehicles with passenger air bag inflators that can rupture. Free repair once Honda opens it.
Honda is recalling 977,708 2006-2012 vehicles, including Civic, Accord, and Cr-V models, because certain passenger frontal air bag inflators can rupture after long-term humidity and temperature cycling. An inflator rupture can send metal fragments into occupants and cause serious injury or death; the Honda dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The passenger frontal air bag inflator is the metal gas generator inside the passenger-side air bag module. In a crash that calls for the air bag, the inflator burns propellant and fills the air bag so it cushions the front passenger.
In affected 2006-2012 Honda vehicles, certain Takata PSPI-6 inflators contain propellant that degrades after long exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling. When the air bag deploys, degraded propellant creates abnormal pressure inside the inflator. That pressure can rupture the inflator instead of letting it inflate the air bag in a controlled way.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem sits inside the passenger air bag module and shows up during a crash deployment, so normal driving does not tell you whether your vehicle is included.

Scope spans sedans, wagons, hatchbacks, crossovers, and other passenger vehicles from 2006-2012, all tied to the passenger-side front air bag inflator module.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific vehicle.
What's the safety risk?
If the front passenger air bag inflator ruptures, metal fragments can strike people inside the vehicle and cause serious injury or death. Schedule the recall repair as soon as parts are available, and ask the dealer how to handle the vehicle until then. Repair will be free at any franchised Honda dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm whether your 2006-2012 Honda or Acura model is included in this recall.
- Watch for Honda's repair notice before scheduling if the dealer says parts are not ready for your VIN.
- Contact a franchised Honda dealer to ask about the free front passenger air bag inflator replacement that addresses the rupture risk.
- Reference recall number 17V030 and Honda recall numbers KE1 and KE2 when you call.
- Bring the recall notice if Honda mailed one, and keep the front passenger seat empty until the inflator is replaced.
What happens at the repair
Honda has mailed an interim notice and will send another notice when parts are available. Once the final repair opens, a Honda technician will replace the front passenger side air bag inflator, free under the recall. Parts and labor are covered. Honda has a general reimbursement plan on file for owners who paid out of pocket for the same inflator repair before the recall repair opened. Keep repair paperwork and ask Honda customer service or the dealer how to submit documentation.
