Recall 16V627 affects 24 2016 Triple E Unity motorhomes for a showerhead backflow contamination risk. Repair is free at any franchised Triple E dealer.

Triple E is recalling 24 2016 Unity motorhomes because the showerhead can be lowered into the shower pan or sink basin. If wastewater backs up, a submerged showerhead can siphon contaminated water into the fresh water supply, increasing injury risk; Triple E dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The showerhead in the 2016 Triple E Unity motorhome is attached to a flexible hose so it can be used by hand in the shower or near the sink. The hose is supposed to be held by guide rings, which keep the showerhead from dropping into the shower pan or sink basin when it is not being held.

On these Unity motorhomes, those guide rings were not installed. That leaves enough slack for the showerhead to sit down in the pan or basin. If wastewater backs up while the showerhead is sitting there, water from the pan or basin can be drawn back through the showerhead and hose. The corrected setup has two guide rings that hold the shower hose in place.

There is no warning sign before failure. You will not hear a noise, see a dashboard alert, or feel a driving change because the problem is in the plumbing equipment, not the drivetrain.

What's the safety risk?

If wastewater backs up and covers the showerhead, the showerhead can syphon contaminated water into the fresh water supply, increasing injury risk. Avoid using the water system if the showerhead has been submerged in backed-up wastewater, and schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Triple E dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2016 Triple E Unity is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Triple E dealer to schedule the free guide-ring installation that keeps the showerhead from dropping into the shower pan or sink basin.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Triple E mailed one. If not, reference recall number 16V627 when you call.
  4. Keep the showerhead secured above the shower pan and sink basin until the guide rings are installed.
  5. Avoid using the showerhead where waste water can reach it before the repair.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer or RV service center, a Triple E technician installs two guide rings so the shower head cannot lower into the shower pan or sink basin. The recall repair is available and free to you. If an RV service center charges a fee for the recall work, Triple E's reimbursement plan covers that charge, either by reimbursing the retail owner or paying the RV service center directly. Ask the service desk to document the repair and the charge path before work begins.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 16V627?

Recall 16V627 covers 24 2016 Triple E Unity motorhomes, model U24X, with a showerhead that can lower into the shower pan or sink basin. Triple E dealers will install two guide rings for free to keep the showerhead out of those areas.

What should I do if my 2016 Triple E Unity is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific motorhome is included in recall 16V627. If it is, contact a franchised Triple E dealer to schedule the guide-ring installation. Reference recall number 16V627000 or Triple E recall number CA #8368-1 when you call.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects at no cost, and Triple E dealers will install the showerhead guide rings free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for affected 2016 Unity motorhomes.

What is the safety risk?

The safety risk is fresh-water contamination after a waste-water backup. If the showerhead is submerged in the shower pan or sink basin, it can siphon waste water into the fresh-water supply and increase the risk of injury.
