What's wrong?
The recalled 2010-2016 Road Rescue Duramedic, Ultramedic, Transmedic, Specialty Vehicle, Promedic, and Metromedic emergency vehicles use a Class 1 ES-Key power control module. That module routes electrical power to connected emergency-vehicle equipment and is supposed to protect the wiring when a circuit is overloaded. In normal operation, its overcurrent protection acts like a fuse or circuit breaker.
On affected vehicles, the Supernode output protection does not perform as expected with certain software and installation combinations. If a connected non-Hale component shorts to ground, the module fails to provide enough circuit protection. The risk is current spikes above the wiring capacity, with wiring overheating and failing.
The filing does not list an owner-visible warning sign before the electrical failure. There is no warning sign before failure, so operators should treat unusual electrical behavior, failed connected equipment, smoke, or a burning smell as a reason to stop using the affected equipment and arrange service.
