What's wrong?
The air conditioner LCD thermostat in 2011-2017 Keystone Passport and Bullet recreational trailers is the wall control for the air conditioning system. It reads the temperature setting and sends control signals so the air conditioner cycles on and off as needed. That thermostat wiring has to be separated from the power source wiring so the circuit stays protected inside the wall.
On affected trailers, the positive thermostat wires were tied together with the source wiring instead of being separated according to the air conditioner manufacturer's installation instructions. If a screw, pin nail, or similar fastener is driven into the wall where that wiring runs, the incorrect wiring layout increases the chance of a high-resistance short. That short can make the thermostat malfunction and interfere with air conditioner control.
The warning sign named in the recall is a thermostat malfunction after an event affects the wiring area. Treat that as a real warning, especially after wall work or fasteners installed near the thermostat wiring.
