Recall 16V567 covers 42 2015-2016 E-One Cyclone Ii and Typhoon fire trucks with Waterous transmission shift-unit damage. Repair is free at any franchised E-One dealer.
E-One is recalling 42 2015-2016 Cyclone Ii and Typhoon fire trucks because certain Waterous C20 and C21 split-shaft transmissions have a damaged shift-unit component that can stop operators from changing power output. If that happens at a fire scene, the truck can be unable to pump water, increasing injury risk; E-One dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The Waterous C20 and C21 split-shaft transmission on affected 2015-2016 E-One Cyclone Ii and Typhoon vehicles routes engine power either to the wheels or to an add-on unit such as a fire pump. In road mode, it helps move the emergency vehicle. In pump mode, it sends power to equipment used during firefighting.
The problem is inside the shift unit. A clevis pin and retaining ring can fail, which leaves the shift mechanism damaged or unable to move the power output where the operator needs it. E-One's repair replaces that clevis pin and retaining ring setup with a shoulder bolt and locking nut.
Operators can notice trouble before the shift unit fails. The warning signs are difficulty shifting from road mode to pump mode, or a scraping or clanging sound during the change from road mode to pump mode.
Who's affected?
Both Cyclone Ii and Typhoon are listed for 2015 and 2016, with the same manual transmission component.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
When the truck cannot switch power output from road to pump mode, it can arrive at a fire scene but fail to pump water, increasing injury risk. Treat difficulty shifting from road to pump mode, or scraping or clanging during the change, as a reason to arrange service. Repair is free at any franchised E-One dealer.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 16V567?
Recall 16V567 covers 42 2015-2016 E-One Cyclone Ii and Typhoon fire trucks with certain Waterous C20 and C21 split-shaft transmissions. A damaged shift-unit component can stop the operator from changing power output, including power needed for the fire pump.
What should I do if my 2015-2016 E-One Cyclone Ii or Typhoon is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific fire truck is included in recall 16V567. If it is, contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612 or an authorized E-One service location to arrange the free remedy kit for the shift unit.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to fix the defect at no cost, and E-One supplies the remedy kit free of charge. The kit replaces the clevis pin and retaining rings in the affected shift unit.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is loss of fire-pump function after the truck reaches a scene. If the power output cannot be changed, the vehicle cannot power the water pump needed to fight a fire, increasing the risk of injury.
When did E-One start this recall?
E-One began this recall on September 8, 2016. If you own or maintain a 2015-2016 E-One Cyclone Ii or Typhoon, the VIN decides whether this specific transmission remedy applies.
