What's wrong?

The Sway Command anti-sway system on 2016-2017 Jayco Travel Trailer Jay Feather, Octane, Eagle, Jay Flight, Jay Flight Slx, and White Hawk trailers is designed to help control trailer sway. It watches for side-to-side movement and applies the trailer brakes to pull the trailer back in line. The tow vehicle's integrated brake controller is the part that normally sends braking commands from the truck to the trailer brakes.

On affected trailers, Sway Command can create a conflict with the tow vehicle's integrated brake controller after it applies the trailer brakes during a sway event. The tow vehicle detects brake-system voltage that it did not send, then shuts down the integrated brake control module as a protective response. Once that happens, the trailer brakes no longer function to slow or stop the trailer until the system is reset.

There is no warning sign before failure. The problem appears after the anti-sway system responds to a sway event, so the driver learns the trailer brakes are not responding only when braking is needed.

Who's affected?

The Jay Feather, Octane, Eagle, Jay Flight, Jay Flight Slx, and White Hawk lines share the same integrated trailer brake control electrical-system issue across the 2016 and 2017 model years.
