What's wrong?
The 2011 Buick Regal uses a wiring harness under the power adjustable front seats to carry electricity to the seat motors and controls. In vehicles with 8-way power adjustable front seats, that harness needs to stay routed away from the metal seat frame while the seat moves forward, backward, up, and down.
On affected Regals, the harness routing allows the wires to rub against the seat frame. A sharp burr or another contact point on the frame wears through the insulation around the wires. Once the insulation is damaged, the wiring can short circuit under the seat.
There is no warning sign before failure. The seat can keep working normally until the harness insulation is worn enough for an electrical short circuit.
Who's affected?
The issue is tied to the front power seat adjuster and the wiring in the same 2011 Regal sedans.

What's the safety risk?
Chafed harness wires can cause a short circuit and raise the risk of a fire. If your VIN is included, schedule the dealer inspection and wiring repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Buick dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Buick technician inspects the power seat wiring harness, secures it so it stays clear of the seat frame, and repairs chafed wires that need repair. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. If you've already paid for a related wiring or seat harness repair, Buick's standard reimbursement plan covers documented repairs tied to this issue. Bring receipts or repair paperwork to the service desk.
