Recall 16V374 covers 34,738 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles with passenger air bag inflators that rupture. Franchised Land Rover dealer repair will be free.
Land Rover is recalling 34,738 2007-2011 Range Rover SUVs in specified high-humidity and temperature zones because passenger frontal air bag inflators can rupture after long-term exposure. In a crash that deploys the front air bags, metal fragments can strike occupants and cause serious injury or death; the Land Rover dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The passenger frontal air bag inflator in 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover SUVs is the metal canister inside the passenger air bag module. In a crash that calls for deployment, it burns propellant to create gas that fills the air bag in a controlled burst. The inflator has to build pressure quickly without breaking apart.
The affected inflators were supplied by Takata and use non-desiccated ammonium nitrate propellant, meaning the chemical charge does not have a drying agent built in. After long-term exposure to humidity and temperature cycling, that propellant degrades. When the air bag deploys, the inflator can rupture instead of releasing gas through its designed path.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem is inside the inflator, so a driver will not feel a change in steering, braking, or normal driving before a crash forces the passenger air bag to deploy.

What's the safety risk?
An air bag inflator rupture can send metal fragments into the cabin. Those fragments can strike occupants and cause serious injury or death. There is no warning sign listed before rupture, so arrange the recall repair promptly once the dealer remedy is available. Repair will be free at any franchised Land Rover dealer once available.
What should I do?

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 16V374?
Recall 16V374 covers 34,738 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles with passenger frontal air bag inflators that can rupture during air bag deployment. Metal fragments can strike occupants, causing serious injury or death. Land Rover dealers replace the passenger frontal air bag assemblies for free.
What should I do if my 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific Range Rover is included in recall 16V374. If it is, contact a franchised Land Rover dealer and reference recall P081 or 16V374 when you call. The dealer repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Land Rover's remedy says dealers replace the passenger frontal air bag assemblies free of charge. Parts and labor are covered at a franchised Land Rover dealer.
Is it safe to drive my Range Rover with this air bag recall?
The recall does not include a do-not-drive order, but the risk is serious if the passenger frontal air bag deploys in a crash. An inflator rupture can send metal fragments toward occupants. Check your VIN and arrange the free dealer repair if your vehicle is included.
What if I bought my Land Rover Range Rover used?
The free recall repair still applies. This recall depends on the VIN and where the vehicle was originally sold or ever registered, including listed Zone A and Zone B areas. Check your VIN, then call a franchised Land Rover dealer with recall P081 or 16V374.
