Recall 16V338 covers 2,657 2015-2017 Stoughton Avw, Zgpvw, Dvw, and Avxw trailers with defective SR-5 brake valves. Stoughton provides the remedy kit free.
Stoughton is recalling 2,657 2015-2017 Avw, Zgpvw, Dvw, and Avxw trailers equipped with certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves because improperly machined valves can let the parking brake chamber fail while parked. If the chamber fails, the trailer can roll away, and the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The Bendix SR5 spring brake valve is part of the trailer's air brake system on affected 2015-2017 Stoughton Avw, Zgpvw, Dvw, and Avxw trailers. It helps route compressed air to the spring brake chambers, which release the brakes for travel and hold the trailer when it is parked.
On these trailers, the valve body was improperly machined. That machining error can make the valve malfunction and send air leaking back through the supply gladhand, the air-line connector between the tractor and trailer. If the valve fails while the trailer is parked, the parking brake chamber can stop holding the brakes as intended.
The warning sign is an audible hiss of air from the supply gladhand area. If you hear that leak, the brake air system is not sealing correctly.

What's the safety risk?
A failed parking brake chamber can let a parked trailer roll away, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Listen for an audible hiss of air leaking back through the supply gladhand, and secure the trailer before you move it or work around it. Repair will be free at any franchised Stoughton dealer once available.
