What's wrong?

The third row seat in the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and Town And Country uses fasteners to hold the seatback frame to the seat cushion frame. Those fasteners keep the back of the seat locked to the lower cushion structure, so the row stays solid when passengers sit there and when the van moves over bumps.

On affected minivans, the nuts on the third row seatback were tightened with too little torque at assembly. Torque is the tightening force on the nut. When that force is too low, normal vibration and seat movement can loosen the joint. If the joint loosens enough, the seatback frame assembly can separate from the cushion frame assembly.

An owner can notice the seatback feeling loose before the joint fails. A rattle or squeak from the third row is the warning sign named in the recall.

A matching 2016 Grand Caravan or Town And Country does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific minivan is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the third row seatback loosens, it can separate from the seat frame and raise the risk of injury for passengers. Listen for a loose seatback, rattle, or squeak, and schedule the repair soon if your VIN is included. Repair is free at any franchised Dodge dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan or Town And Country is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Dodge dealer to schedule the free third-row-seatback nut re-torque that secures the loose seatback.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Dodge mailed one. Reference recall number 16V300 when you call.
  4. Keep passengers out of the third row until the dealer confirms the seatback nuts are re-torqued.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Dodge technician tightens the nuts on the third row seatbacks so the seatback hardware is secured to the correct specification. The recall repair is free, including parts and labor. FCA US has a reimbursement process for owners who already paid to fix this same issue before the recall work. Send the original receipt or other proof of payment to the company as requested in the owner letter so the expense can be reviewed.
