What's wrong?
The Atwood Model 0D50 on-demand water heater in the 2016 Fleetwood Southwind heats water as it flows to the hot water tap. Its gas valve controls fuel to the burner, so the heater adds heat only when hot water is being requested. That valve is part of the LPG water-heater system in the motorhome.
In the recalled heaters, the problem comes from the gas valve adjustment and the poppet valve reed switch. The poppet valve is a small internal valve, and the reed switch is the signal device that helps control its operation. When those parts do not line up within the needed tolerance, the poppet valve does not operate properly. The result is water at the hot water tap overheating beyond the intended temperature.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner using the hot water tap can encounter water that is hotter than expected without a separate alert from the heater.

What's the safety risk?
Overheated water can release steam from the hot water heater, scalding the operator and increasing the risk of injury. Until the recall work is done, use caution around the hot water system and stop using it if it overheats or vents steam. Repair will be free at any franchised Fleetwood dealer once available.

What happens at the repair
The final repair is still listed as under development, so do not assume the Fleetwood dealer can complete it today. A Fleetwood service technician will handle the recall work for the heater and gas valve area covered by campaign 15V751, with Atwood providing the remedy support. A general reimbursement plan is on file. If you already paid for a related hot water heater repair, ask Fleetwood customer service or Atwood customer service how to submit documented expenses under that plan.
