What's wrong?
The fuel tank on the 2006-2008 GMC W3500, W4500, Npr, and Npr Hd trucks stores gasoline and keeps it sealed away from the frame, road spray, and exhaust area. Fuel leaves the tank through the fuel system only when the engine needs it. The tank has to stay intact so pressure, fuel delivery, and containment stay controlled.
On affected trucks, the fuel tank can corrode. Corrosion eats into the metal tank wall and weakens it from the outside in. Once the wall is thin enough, fuel can leak through the damaged area instead of staying inside the tank. This is the defect covered by recall 15V704.
There is no warning sign before failure. After a leak starts, an owner can notice fuel smell or visible fuel under the truck, but the recall record does not name an earlier sign that appears before the tank begins to fail.

What's the safety risk?
A fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. If you see or smell fuel, stop using the truck and call a GMC dealer before moving it again. Repair will be free at any franchised GMC dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2006-2008 GMC W3500, W4500, Npr, or Npr Hd truck is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised GMC dealer before driving if you smell fuel or see a fuel leak.
- Schedule the free fuel-tank replacement that fixes the corrosion and fuel-leak risk.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 15V704 when you call.
- Keep the truck away from ignition sources until the fuel tank has been inspected and replaced.
What happens at the repair
The repair plan calls for the fuel tank to be replaced at the dealer, free of charge. A GMC technician removes the corroded or leak prone tank covered by the recall and installs the replacement tank, then checks the fuel system for proper fit and leaks before returning the truck. Because this recall does not list the final remedy as available here, treat the dealer repair as free once available and ask the GMC service desk to confirm current parts availability before scheduling.
