Recall 15V611 affects 1,477 2016 Ford F-53 and F-59 chassis trucks that can shift from Park without braking. Repair is free at franchised Ford dealers.
Ford is recalling 1,477 2016 F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis trucks because an incorrect shift cable bracket and improper adjustment let the vehicle shift out of PARK without the brake pedal applied. That can let the truck move unintentionally and raise crash risk, and Ford dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The transmission shift cable on the 2016 Ford F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis connects the steering-column shift lever to the automatic transmission. When the lever is in Park, the cable should place the transmission in the Park detent and work with the brake transmission shift interlock, the system that is meant to keep the vehicle from shifting out of Park unless the brake pedal is applied.
On affected chassis equipped with the 6R140 transmission, the shift cable bracket was built to the wrong specification and the cable was not adjusted correctly during assembly. Those two problems leave the cable out of position. The result is that the vehicle can be shifted out of Park without pressing the brake, and it can move rearward even while the lever appears to be in Park.
There is no warning sign before failure. Treat any unexpected movement in Park as a serious shift-system problem.
Who's affected?
Both chassis lines share the same automatic-transmission scope, so the model name alone does not settle inclusion.

What's the safety risk?
If the transmission shifts into reverse without the brake pedal applied, the vehicle can move unintentionally and increase the risk of a crash. Before shifting, keep firm pressure on the brake and schedule the recall repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.

- Set the parking brake when the vehicle is parked until the dealer repair is complete.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician replaces the transmission shift control bracket and adjusts the transmission shift cable so the shifter is set up correctly. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Reimbursement is handled through Ford's original warranty program, not through a separate reimbursement process, because the warranty provided a free repair for this concern. If you have prior paperwork for this condition, ask the Ford service desk how the warranty coverage applies.
