What's wrong?
The recalled equipment is the Kidde plastic-valve disposable handheld fire extinguisher supplied with 2013-2015 Mcneilus concrete mixers and refuse trucks. Its normal job is simple: when someone presses the lever, the valve opens and releases extinguishing agent onto a small fire. That only works if the valve and internal parts move correctly under pressure.
On affected trucks, the extinguisher has a component that was built outside Kidde's specification. In plain terms, a part inside the extinguisher was not made to the required design limit. Because of that, the extinguisher can fail to discharge as designed when the lever is pressed, leaving the operator without the fire protection expected from that equipment.
There is no warning sign before failure. The extinguisher can look normal until someone tries to use it, so the key difference is the model and manufacturing date code on the extinguisher.

What's the safety risk?
If a fire starts, a fire extinguisher that does not work correctly leaves anyone relying on it with less protection and increases the risk of injury. There is no warning sign before the extinguisher fails, so follow the inspection instructions before depending on it in an emergency. Repair is free at any franchised Mcneilus dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2013-2015 Mcneilus Rear Loader, Xxc Rear Loader, Atlantic Front Loader, Standard Mixer, Sliding Trailer, Zr, Autoreach, Bridgemaster V Mixer, Pacific Front Loader, or Metro Pak Rear Loader is included in this recall.
- Contact Mcneilus customer service at 1-888-686-7278 for the Kidde fire-extinguisher inspection instructions.
- Follow the Kidde inspection instructions for the plastic-valve disposable fire extinguisher, so the extinguisher can be replaced if it does not discharge correctly.
- Reference recall number 15V572 and Mcneilus recall Kidde: CPSC 15-079 when you call.
- Keep the truck's fire extinguisher available, but arrange the free replacement before relying on it in a fire.
What happens at the repair
This campaign uses an inspection and replacement path for the Kidde handheld fire extinguisher rather than a mechanical truck repair. Follow the Kidde instructions supplied through Mcneilus to inspect the plastic valve disposable fire extinguisher on the truck. If the extinguisher is covered and fails the inspection, Kidde replaces it free of charge. A Mcneilus service contact can help confirm the recall process and route the extinguisher replacement request through the right channel. The recall remedy is available now, and the replacement extinguisher is covered under the recall.
