Recall 15V516 affects 191 2014-2015 Pierce emergency vehicles for a driveshaft that can disconnect. Repair is free at any franchised Pierce dealer.
Pierce is recalling 191 2014-2015 Arrow Xt, Dash Cf, Enforcer, Quantum, and Velocity emergency vehicles because the driveshaft can bend, twist, or disconnect. A disconnected driveshaft would cause loss of drive, disable the vehicle on the roadway, stop it from responding to an emergency, and create a road hazard; Pierce dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The driveshaft in these 2014-2015 Pierce Enforcer, Velocity, Dash Cf, Arrow Xt, and Quantum emergency vehicles carries turning force from the transmission into the driveline. On trucks equipped with the Allison 4000 EVS transmission and 1810 series drivelines, that shaft has to stay straight and strong while handling powertrain torque.
On recalled vehicles, some driveshaft tubing was made with lower yield strength than required. In plain terms, the metal did not have enough strength for the loads the powertrain puts through it. Under torque, the shaft can bend or twist, then disconnect from the driveline. A visual check alone does not identify the recalled part, because the difference is in the material strength of the tubing.
There is no warning sign before failure. The driveshaft can fail without a noise, vibration, warning light, or other clear signal for the driver before it happens.

What's the safety risk?
A driveshaft that separates from the vehicle can cause loss of drive and leave the vehicle disabled on the roadway. It can also drop driveshaft parts into traffic. Those parts become a road hazard, and the situation increases crash risk. There is no warning sign before this happens. Repair is free at any franchised Pierce dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2014-2015 Pierce Enforcer, Velocity, Dash Cf, Arrow Xt, or Quantum emergency vehicle is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Pierce dealer to schedule the free stronger-driveshaft installation that addresses the driveshaft bending, twisting, and disconnecting problem.
- Bring the recall notice if Pierce has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 15V516 when you call.
- Plan alternate emergency-response coverage until the stronger driveshaft is installed, since a disconnected driveshaft can disable the vehicle on the roadway.
- Call Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 with questions about scheduling or dealer instructions.
