2015 Nissan Armada Recall 15V501: Seat Belt Buckle Defect

Recall 15V501 covers 1,554 2015 Nissan Armada vehicles with front seat belt buckle latching or release defects. Free repair at any franchised Nissan dealer.

Nissan is recalling 1,554 2015 Armada vehicles under recall 15V501 because driver or front passenger seat belt assemblies can fail to latch, or fail to release when the button is pressed. An unlatched belt will not restrain an occupant in a crash, and a stuck latch can delay exit after an emergency; Nissan dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

In recall 15V501, the front seat belt buckle in the 2015 Nissan Armada is the latch at the inboard side of the driver or front passenger seat. The belt tongue clicks into this buckle so the belt stays locked during normal driving and crash forces. The release button is supposed to unlock the buckle when the occupant needs to get out.

On affected Armadas, incorrect buckle subassemblies were mixed with the correct parts at the supplier. Those incorrect subassemblies used a magnetic lock pin that was not intended for Nissan Armada buckles. Because of that mismatch, the buckle can fail to latch securely, or it can stay latched after the release button is pressed.

There is no warning sign before failure. The problem is inside the buckle assembly, so an owner will not have a dashboard light or routine driving symptom before the latch or release function fails.

Not every 2015 Nissan Armada is on the list. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the front seat belt buckle fails to latch, it will not restrain the occupant in a crash, increasing injury risk. If it fails to unlatch when the release button is pressed, the occupant can be delayed when exiting after a crash or other emergency. Schedule the inspection and any buckle replacement soon. Repair is free at any franchised Nissan dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2015 Nissan Armada is included in this recall.
  2. Contact your nearest franchised Nissan dealer to schedule the free front seat belt buckle inspection and replacement that fixes buckles that do not latch or release correctly.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Nissan mailed one. If not, reference recall number 15V501 when you call.
  4. Avoid using a front seat if its belt buckle does not latch or release correctly until the dealer inspects it.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Nissan technician inspects both front seat belt buckle assemblies to confirm they latch and release correctly. If a buckle assembly does not pass inspection, the technician replaces it. The recall repair is free at a Nissan dealer, and parts and labor are covered. Out-of-pocket repairs already paid are handled through the vehicle warranty, not through a separate reimbursement program, because the affected vehicles are under warranty. Ask the service desk how warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
