Recall 15V460 affects 667,441 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks for unexpected side air bag deployment. Repair is free at any franchised Ram dealer.
Ram is recalling 667,441 2013-2015 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks because overly sensitive side impact sensor calibrations can trigger the side curtain air bags, seat air bags, and seat belt pre-tensioners when they are not needed. Unexpected air bag deployment increases the risk of a crash or injury, and Ram dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
On 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks, the side impact sensors are part of the air bag system. They read crash forces along the side of the truck and tell the system when to deploy the side curtain air bags, seat air bags, and seat belt pre-tensioners. The pre-tensioners tighten the belts at the start of a crash to hold occupants in position.
In affected trucks, the side impact sensor calibrations are set too sensitive. A hard jolt or impact input that should not trigger protection can be read as a side crash signal. When that happens, the side curtain air bags and seat air bags deploy unexpectedly, and the belt pre-tensioners activate even though the truck is not in the side crash condition they are designed for.
There is no warning sign before failure. Owners should not expect a light, noise, smell, or change in how the truck drives before an inadvertent deployment.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
An air bag that deploys without a crash exposes occupants to injury and increases the risk of a crash. If your VIN is included, schedule the Occupant Restraint Control module calibration update soon and drive cautiously until it is complete. Repair is free at any franchised Ram dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, or 3500 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ram dealer to schedule the free Occupant Restraint Control module calibration update that corrects the overly sensitive side-impact sensor response.
- Bring the recall notice if Ram has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 15V460 when you call.
- Ask the dealer to confirm the side air bag and seat-belt pre-tensioner calibration repair is complete before you pick up the truck.
- Drive with caution until the repair is complete, and schedule service promptly because unexpected air bag deployment increases crash and injury risk.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ram technician updates the Occupant Restraint Control module calibration so the side impact sensor settings match the recall repair. The dealer visit is free under the recall. If you already paid out of pocket for a related repair before the owner letter, Ram's reimbursement process asks customers to send the original receipt or other proof of payment so the expense can be confirmed.
