Recall 15V458 affects 12,551 2011-2016 Kenworth T440, T470, T660, T680, and T880 trucks for hazard-light override. Repair is free at any franchised Kenworth dealer.
Kenworth is recalling 12,551 2011-2016 T440, T470, T660, T680, and T880 trucks with HID headlamps and daytime running lamps because braking for more than two seconds can let the DRLs override hazard flashing. That failure can leave oncoming drivers without a hazard warning and increase crash risk; Kenworth dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The daytime running lamps on affected 2011-2016 Kenworth T440, T470, T880, T680, and T660 trucks are part of the exterior lighting system. They keep the front lamps on during driving, while the hazard warning lights are supposed to flash when the driver turns them on to warn traffic around the truck. When hazards are active, the daytime running lamps are required to step out of the way so the flashing signal stays clear.
On these trucks, the cab controller software is programmed incorrectly. If the hazard warning lights are on and the brake pedal is held for more than two seconds, the daytime running lamps override the hazard flashers. The hazard lights return to normal once the service brake is released, so the problem appears only while the brake is being held.
There is no warning sign before failure. The owner notices the defect only when the hazard lights stop flashing correctly during that brake-hold condition.

What's the safety risk?
When daytime running lamps override the hazard warning lamps, oncoming drivers lose a clear warning signal, increasing the risk of a crash. Use extra caution in stopped or disabled traffic situations, and schedule the software update soon. Repair is free at any franchised Kenworth dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2011-2016 Kenworth T440, T470, T880, T680, or T660 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Kenworth dealer to schedule the free cab controller software update that keeps the daytime running lamps from overriding the hazard warning lights.
- Reference recall number 15V458 and Kenworth recall 15KWL when you call the dealer.
- Bring the recall notice if Kenworth mailed one, or give the dealer your VIN when scheduling.
- Use extra caution until the repair is complete, especially when hazard lights are needed while braking.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Kenworth technician updates the cab controller software so the daytime running lamps stop overriding the hazard warning lights after the brake pedal is held. The software update restores the hazard light behavior required for the affected HID headlamp and daytime running lamp setup. The recall repair is free, and Kenworth covers the dealer work. Ask the service desk to confirm the update is recorded against your VIN before you leave.
