What's wrong?
The affected 2006-2014 Turtle Top Odyssey Lt, Odyssey, Terra Transport, and Vanterra buses and MPV specialty vehicles have a Trans/Air add-on air conditioning compressor mounted on a GM chassis. During that installation, technicians had to disconnect an original GM cable from the power distribution terminal strip at the front of the engine compartment. That strip carries electrical power through a stud connection, so it has to be tight and seated correctly.
The defect is in that reconnection. If the cable is loose or poorly seated on the terminal strip stud, electrical current meets resistance at the connection point. That resistance can create arcing or overheating under the hood. In the NHTSA filing for campaign 15V396, the concern is increased risk of vehicle fire.
An owner can notice a smell of smoke or heat from under the hood. The terminal strip stud can also be hot to the touch, but the filing says there can be no warning sign before failure.

What's the safety risk?
A poor or loose connection at the power distribution terminal strip can arc or overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Smoke smell, heat from under the hood, or a hot terminal strip stud are warning signs, but the problem can also appear without a warning sign. Schedule the inspection soon. Repair is free at any franchised Turtle Top dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Turtle Top technician inspects the power distribution terminal strip connection and corrects the connection as needed. The inspection and any related correction are free under the recall. Turtle Top has a general reimbursement plan for prior related repairs. If you already paid out of pocket for this same terminal strip connection issue before the recall work, ask Turtle Top customer service or the dealer service desk how to submit documentation for review.
