What's wrong?
The driver frontal air bag inflator in the 2005-2014 Ford Mustang and 2005-2006 Ford GT is the metal canister inside the driver air bag module. In a crash, it is supposed to create gas in a controlled way so the air bag fills between the driver and the steering wheel. Dual-stage means the module is designed to manage deployment force based on crash conditions.
On affected vehicles, the Takata PSDI-4 inflator is susceptible to moisture getting inside. Moisture changes the conditions inside the inflator as the vehicle ages. If the inflator activates during a crash, that weakened inflator can rupture instead of opening the air bag in the intended, controlled way. This is why the recall focuses on the driver-side inflator module, not the whole air bag system.
There is no warning sign before failure. The vehicle can look and drive normally, and the air bag warning light is not described as a warning for this defect.
Who's affected?
The Mustang spans 2005-2014, while the GT spans 2005-2006, and both use the same front air bag inflator module in this recall.

What's the safety risk?
In a crash that deploys the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. Do not drive, even for short trips, until the inflator is replaced. If the vehicle must move, ask the dealer about towing. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2005-2014 Ford Mustang or Ford GT is included in this recall.
- Do not drive the vehicle until the driver-side air bag inflator replacement is complete.
- Arrange a tow if the vehicle has to be moved to the dealer; do not drive it there yourself.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free driver-side air bag inflator replacement that removes the rupture risk during deployment.
- Bring the recall notice if Ford mailed one. If not, reference recall number 15V319 and Ford recall 15S21 when you call.
- Complete the final remedy even if an interim repair was done under safety recall 14V-802.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician replaces the front driver side air bag inflator with the final recall remedy. The repair is available now, and parts and labor are covered under the recall. Do not drive the vehicle until this repair is complete. A prior interim repair does not close this campaign, so the vehicle still needs the final inflator replacement. Ford is not offering a separate reimbursement program because the original warranty program provided a free repair for this concern. Ask the service desk how warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 15V319?
Recall 15V319 covers 1,018,622 2005-2014 Ford Mustang and GT vehicles with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag inflator that can rupture after moisture intrusion. In a crash with driver air bag deployment, metal fragments can strike occupants. Ford dealers will replace the front driver side air bag inflator for free.
What should I do if my 2005-2014 Ford Mustang or GT is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 15V319. If it is, do not drive the vehicle. Contact a franchised Ford dealer for the free driver air bag inflator replacement and ask about towing if the vehicle has to move.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Ford says dealers will replace the front driver side air bag inflator free of charge. Reference recall 15V319 or Ford recall number 15S21 when you call the dealer.
What does 'do not drive' mean for recall 15V319?

The free recall repair still applies. Recall eligibility follows the VIN, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your Mustang or GT is included, then contact a franchised Ford dealer and reference recall 15V319 or Ford recall number 15S21.
