What's wrong?

The 2008-2015 Crane Coe, LET2, and LDT2 trucks use a Cummins Westport ISL G engine with an open crankcase ventilation breather. That breather separates most of the engine oil from pressurized gases that escape the crankcase during normal operation. A vent tube assembly then routes those gases down toward the bottom of the engine.

On affected trucks, excessive crankcase pressure can push the 90-degree elbow of that vent tube assembly loose from the breather exit tube. The retaining barbs on the tube do not hold the elbow securely enough under that pressure. In the known incidents, high crankcase pressure was mainly linked to a cracked piston. Once the elbow detaches, engine oil can reach hot engine surfaces.
