What's wrong?

The wheel studs on the 2016 Lakota Charger C39 are threaded metal pins that hold each wheel tight against the axle hub. The hub is the part of the axle that the wheel mounts to, so the studs carry the clamping force that keeps the wheel seated while the trailer is moving. They have to stay intact under road vibration and wheel load.

On the affected trailer, the Lippert axle uses a Tru Ryde 10-inch or 12-inch hub with studs that break. Lakota said the root cause was unknown, but Lippert stated the replacement pieces came from a different supplier. When a stud breaks, the wheel loses part of the clamping force that holds it to the hub, and the dealer needs to replace the affected parts before the trailer leaves service.

There is no warning sign before failure. An owner should not count on noise, vibration, or visible movement to appear first.
