What's wrong?
The added compressor mount kit on affected 2006-2014 GM G3500 and G4500 vehicles supports an air conditioning compressor. To install that kit, Trans-Air personnel had to remove the fan shroud, which meant disconnecting an OEM GM cable from the power distribution terminal strip. That strip is an electrical junction near the front of the engine compartment, and the cable has to be tight on its stud so electrical current moves cleanly.
The defect is in the reconnection step after the compressor mount kit is installed. If the cable is not secured correctly on the terminal strip stud, the connection becomes loose. A loose high-current connection creates resistance, and resistance creates heat at the terminal. That heat can damage nearby material and raise the risk of an under-hood fire.
Owners can notice a smell of smoke, heat from under the hood, or a terminal strip stud that is hot to the touch. There can also be no warning sign before failure.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
A poor or loose power distribution terminal strip connection can arc or overheat and increase the risk of a vehicle fire. Watch for smoke smell, unusual heat under the hood, or a terminal strip stud that feels hot. The problem can also show no warning sign, so contact the dealer promptly. Repair will be free at any franchised GM dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2006-2014 GM G4500 or G3500 is included in this recall.
- Watch for the recall instructions before scheduling the free inspection.
- Contact a franchised GM dealer once the inspection opens, and ask them to check the power distribution terminal strip connection that can arc or overheat.
- Reference recall number 15V213 when you call the dealer.
- Avoid parking near structures if you smell electrical burning or see signs of overheating before the inspection.
What happens at the repair
Once the final dealer repair is available, a GM technician will inspect the power distribution terminal strip connection tied to the add-on compressor mount kit and correct the connection as needed. The recall repair will be free, including parts and labor. A general reimbursement plan is on file for owners who already paid for a related repair before the recall notice. Keep your invoice and repair documentation, then ask the service desk or customer care how to submit the claim.
