What's wrong?

The fuel pump on the 2014 Nissan Rogue sits in the fuel system and sends gasoline from the tank to the engine at the pressure the engine needs. Inside the pump, a small rotating impeller helps move fuel through the pump body. The pump has to keep turning cleanly for the engine to start and keep running.

On affected Rogues, nickel plating inside the pump casing or cover was not applied properly. Fuel flow, vibration, or pressure can loosen that plating. The loose particles can move into the narrow gap between the impeller and the casing, where they can jam the impeller and stop it from rotating. When that happens, the fuel pump fails and the engine does not get the fuel it needs.

There is no warning sign before failure. The problem can show up as a no-start condition, or as the engine stopping after startup.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Nissan technician replaces the fuel pump covered by this recall. The replacement parts and labor are free. Out-of-pocket repairs already paid are handled through the existing warranty, not through a separate reimbursement program, because the affected vehicles are covered under warranty. Ask the service desk how that warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
