2015 Ic Bus Recb Recall 15V168: Brake Hose Abrasion

Recall 15V168 affects 7 2015 Ic Bus Recb buses because front air brake hoses contact tires. Repair is free at any franchised Ic Bus dealer.

Ic Bus is recalling 7 2015 Recb transit buses because the front wheel service brake air hose can contact the tire when the steering is fully turned. Tire contact can abrade the hose, cause an air leak, pull the bus to one side while braking, or require extra stopping distance, increasing crash risk; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?

The front air brake hose on the 2015 Ic Bus Recb carries compressed air to the front wheel service brakes. When the driver presses the brake pedal, that air pressure helps apply the brake mechanism at the wheel. The hose has to stay clear of the tire through the full steering range, including a tight turn.

On affected buses, the hose routing leaves the air brake hose close enough to the tire that contact occurs when the steering wheel is turned fully. The tire then rubs against the hose instead of leaving it undisturbed. That rubbing can wear or damage the hose, and a damaged air brake hose can lose pressure needed for normal front brake operation.

There is no warning sign before failure. An owner or driver is unlikely to know the hose is being rubbed unless the area is inspected, so the problem can stay hidden until the hose is damaged.

Not every 2015 Ic Bus Recb bus is on the list. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.

What's the safety risk?

Air brake hose abrasion can cause an air leak, making the bus pull to one side during braking or need extra distance to stop. Either condition increases crash risk. Schedule the repair soon and leave extra stopping room until service is complete. Repair will be free at any franchised Ic Bus dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2015 Ic Bus Recb is included in this recall.
  2. Contact your nearest franchised Ic Bus dealer and ask whether the free front air brake hose fitting correction is open for your VIN.
  3. Schedule the front air brake hose fitting correction that keeps the hose from rubbing the tire and creating an air leak.
  4. Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 15V168 when you call.
  5. Avoid sharp full-lock steering turns until the repair is complete, and leave extra stopping distance when driving the bus.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, an Ic Bus technician checks the front wheel service brake air hose routing and corrects the front air brake hose fitting orientation so the hose stays clear of the tire during full steering turns. Any hose with abrasion damage is replaced as needed. The dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under recall 15V168. Contact Ic Bus customer service if the service desk needs the campaign number.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 15V168?

Recall 15V168 covers 7 2015 Ic Bus Recb transit buses with front air brake hoses that can contact the tires when the steering is fully turned. Tire contact can abrade the hose, create an air leak, and increase crash risk. Dealers will correct the hose fitting orientation for free.

What should I do if my 2015 Ic Bus Recb is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific bus is included in recall 15V168. If it is, contact a franchised Ic Bus dealer to schedule the front air brake hose fitting correction. Reference recall number 15508 when you call. The repair is free.
