What's wrong?

The Totally Integrated Power Module, or TIPM-7, is the under-hood electrical box that routes power to major vehicle circuits on 2012-2013 Grand Cherokee and Durango vehicles. Inside that module, the fuel pump relay switches power to the fuel pump, which sends fuel from the tank to the engine. The engine needs that relay to close reliably each time the pump is called on.

In affected vehicles, heat around the relay and the electrical load through its contacts deform the contact spring. FCA also found contact erosion in failed relays. When the relay does not energize the fuel pump, the pump stops receiving power. Without fuel pressure, the engine stalls without warning, even though the rest of the electrical system still has power.

The warning sign FCA identified is engine starting trouble before a stall. If your vehicle cranks longer than normal, fails to start, or starts intermittently, use that language when you call the dealer.

Who's affected?

Two SUV lines are included across the 2012 and 2013 model years, both tied to the electrical system.

2013 Dodge Durango electrical system
2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee electrical system
2012 Dodge Durango electrical system

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included.

What's the safety risk?

A stall can leave the driver without engine power in traffic and increases the risk of a crash. Treat engine starting trouble as a reason to call a franchised Jeep dealer and confirm the next repair step. Repair will be free at any franchised Jeep dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2012-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee or Durango is included in this recall.
  2. Watch for Jeep's owner notice or dealer instructions before scheduling work, because this recall is listed with the remedy still under development.
  3. Contact a franchised Jeep dealer and reference recall number 15V115 when you ask about the fuel-pump-relay repair that addresses stalling without warning.
  4. Keep the recall notice with your records if Jeep mailed one, and bring it when the dealer gives you a repair appointment.
  5. Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. If the vehicle stalls, move out of traffic if you can do so safely and call for service.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Jeep technician replaces the fuel pump relay with an external relay outside the Totally Integrated Power Module. This campaign also notes that recall 19V813 superseded it, so the service desk should confirm the active repair path for your VIN before work begins. The dealer repair will be free once available under the active recall path. Parts and labor are covered by the recall.
