2015 Chevrolet Cruze Recall 15V113: Parking Brake Bracket

Recall 15V113 affects 1,733 2015 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles for loose parking brake bracket bolts. Repair is free at any franchised Chevrolet dealer.

Chevrolet is recalling 1,733 2015 Cruze vehicles because rear parking brake cable bracket bolts can back out after assembly. If a bracket separates, the parking brake can fail to hold the vehicle in place, increasing rollaway and crash risk; the Chevrolet dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?

The parking brake cable bracket on the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze anchors the rear parking brake cable at the wheel area. When you set the parking brake, the cable pulls tension through that bracket so the rear brake holds the parked car in place. The bracket has to stay bolted down for the parking brake to keep its grip.

On affected Cruze vehicles, the left-rear or right-rear bracket was not fastened correctly during assembly. GM traced the problem to a plant process change that started on February 4, 2015. The fastening work used a different, two-step process, and the second step was not completed on some vehicles. If the bolts back out completely, the bracket separates and the parking brake no longer holds the vehicle.

There is no warning sign before failure. The problem is in how the bracket was bolted together, so an owner can set the parking brake and still have no clear clue that the bracket is loosening.

Not every 2015 Chevrolet Cruze sedan is on the list. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific sedan is included.

What's the safety risk?

If a parking brake bracket separates, the parking brake can fail to hold the Cruze after it is parked. That raises the risk of a roll away and a crash. Schedule the inspection promptly. Repair will be free at any franchised Chevrolet dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2015 Chevrolet Cruze is included in this recall.
  2. Watch for Chevrolet's owner notice before scheduling service if you have not received one.
  3. Contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 for repair timing and reference recall number 15V113 when you call.
  4. Schedule the free parking-brake bracket bolt inspection and tightening once Chevrolet opens the repair; this fixes brackets that can separate and leave the parking brake unable to hold the vehicle.
  5. Park carefully until the repair is complete. Use level ground and make sure the transmission is fully in Park.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, once the repair is available, a Chevrolet technician will inspect the left rear and right rear parking brake bracket bolts and tighten them if needed. The dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under the recall. Out of pocket repairs already paid are handled through the new vehicle warranty, not through a separate reimbursement program, because Chevrolet says the recalled vehicles are covered under that warranty.
