What's wrong?

The 2014 Prevost X3-45 uses a Recaro driver seat with a two-point seat belt on certain commuter coaches covered by NHTSA campaign 15V107. The seat belt retractor is the spring-loaded device that lets the belt pull out for normal movement, then lock when the driver needs restraint. It has to sit clear of pressure from the seat frame so the locking mechanism can move correctly.

On affected coaches, the retractor housing is too close to the seat structure when the driver seat is moved near the full back position. That pressure interferes with the retractor, so the belt does not lock as intended. Prevost traced the problem to that seat and retractor configuration, then changed the retractor mounting to correct the interference.

There is no warning sign before failure. A driver using the seat in the full back position would not know from a light, sound, or belt feel that the retractor is not locking correctly.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Prevost technician inspects the driver seat belt routing and reconfigures the belt so the retractor has the clearance needed to lock as intended with the seat fully back. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. If you already paid for a related seat belt repair before the recall notice, Prevost handles reimbursement requests case by case under the Volvo Trucks general reimbursement plan.
