Recall 14V830 covers 200,064 2008-2014 Subaru Wrx, Forester, Impreza, and Wrx Sti vehicles for brake-line corrosion. Repair is free at any franchised Subaru dealer.
Subaru is recalling 200,064 2008-2014 Wrx, Wrx Sti, Forester, and Impreza vehicles in salt-belt areas because brake lines can corrode after an earlier recall repair left them exposed to salt water. Brake fluid can leak and lengthen stopping distance, increasing crash risk; the Subaru dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The brake lines on 2008-2014 Subaru Wrx, Forester, Impreza, and Wrx Sti vehicles are metal lines in the hydraulic brake system. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid moves through those lines under pressure so the brakes at the wheels can clamp down.
On affected vehicles, salt water splashes onto the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector. That exposure corrodes the brake lines. This recall covers vehicles that were repaired under recall 14V-311 before December 23, 2014, because that earlier repair did not fully protect the lines from salt-water corrosion.
There is no warning sign before failure. If the corrosion advances far enough, the brake line no longer holds brake fluid pressure the way it should.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
Brake line corrosion can let brake fluid leak. That means the vehicle needs more distance to slow or stop, which increases crash risk. There is no listed warning sign before the leak, so take any change in braking seriously and call the dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Subaru dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2008-2014 Subaru Wrx, Forester, Impreza, or Wrx Sti is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Subaru dealer and ask whether the free brake-line anti-corrosion wax repair is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 14V830 and Subaru recall WQQ-52 when you call.
- Bring the owner notice if you have it, and tell the dealer if the vehicle was repaired under the earlier brake-line recall before December 23, 2014.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Leave extra following distance because brake-line corrosion can lengthen stopping distance.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Subaru technician applies anti-corrosion wax to the four-way joint connector area of the brake line system. The work protects the brake lines from salt water corrosion in the area near the fuel tank protector. Subaru says the repair is free of charge. Because the remedy status is not listed here, confirm availability with your VIN before arranging service. Once available for your VIN, parts and labor are covered under the recall.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 14V830?
Recall 14V830 covers 200,064 2008-2014 Subaru Wrx, Forester, Impreza, and Wrx Sti vehicles with brake lines that can corrode after salt water reaches the brake-line area. The defect can lead to brake fluid leaks and longer stopping distances.
What should I do if my 2008-2014 Subaru Wrx, Forester, Impreza, or Wrx Sti is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 14V830. If it is, contact a franchised Subaru dealer and ask for the brake-line anti-corrosion wax repair. Reference Subaru recall WQQ-52 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires Subaru to complete the recall repair at no cost. Subaru's remedy says dealers will apply anti-corrosion wax to the four-way joint connector area of the brake-line system free of charge.
What is the safety risk in recall 14V830?
The safety risk is reduced braking performance. Brake-line corrosion can cause a brake fluid leak, which can make the vehicle need a longer distance to slow or stop and increase crash risk. The dealer repair addresses the brake-line corrosion area for free.
What if I bought this Subaru used?
The free recall repair still follows the vehicle. Check your VIN, because ownership history and model year alone do not confirm inclusion. This recall focuses on vehicles repaired under earlier recall 14V311 before December 23, 2014, plus registration history in listed salt-belt areas.
