What's wrong?
The shift lock in 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi and SX4 vehicles with a CVT is the small mechanical system that keeps the gear selector in Park until the brake pedal is pressed. Inside that system, a detent pin and detent wall act like a stop, so the lever does not move just because someone bumps or pulls it.
On affected vehicles, the detent pin was pressed into place at a slight angle during production. Under high temperature conditions, that tilted pin can climb past the detent wall when the shift lever is moved. Once that happens, the shift lock structure breaks, and the shifter no longer enforces the normal brake-pedal check before leaving Park.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem is inside the shifter mechanism, so the vehicle can seem normal until the selector moves out of Park without the brake pedal being pressed.
Who's affected?
Covers the Kizashi and SX4 across 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, all tied to the automatic transmission gear-position indicator.

What's the safety risk?
A shift selector that moves out of Park without the brake pedal depressed can let the vehicle roll unexpectedly and increase the risk of a crash. Keep the vehicle firmly braked when shifting, use the parking brake when parked, and schedule the recall repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Suzuki dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm whether your 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi or SX4 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Suzuki dealer to schedule the free shift-selector repair that fixes movement out of Park without pressing the brake pedal.
- Bring the recall notice if Suzuki mailed one. If not, reference recall number 14V811 when you call.
- Use the parking brake every time you park until the repair is complete.
- Call Suzuki customer service at 1-714-996-7040 with questions about the dealer repair.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Suzuki technician replaces the shift selector assembly, then inspects the shift knob and replaces it if needed. The recall repair is free, including parts and labor. Suzuki also has a reimbursement plan for owners who paid for the defect repair before the recall notice. If you already paid for shift selector or shift knob work tied to this issue, keep your repair paperwork and ask Suzuki customer service or the dealer service desk how to submit it under that plan.
