Recall 14V745 affects 1,907 1999-2014 Altec Aerial Device units for an improperly set hydraulic pressure transducer. Repair is free at any franchised Altec dealer.
Altec is recalling 1,907 1999-2014 Aerial Device units because an improperly set hydraulic pressure transducer can relieve excessive backpressure in the hydraulic tank circuit. In cooler temperatures, that defect can cause inadvertent boom movement and raise the risk of injury to the occupant or people nearby; Altec dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The 1999-2014 Altec Aerial Device uses hydraulic oil to move and hold the boom under operator control. A hydraulic bypass kit manages pressure in the tank circuit, which is the return side of the hydraulic system. The pressure transducer is the sensor that tells the system when to relieve excess pressure.
On affected units, the variable pressure transducer on the bypass kit was set incorrectly. In severe cold operation, especially when the hydraulic oil warm-up procedure is not followed, that setting lets pressure build in the wrong way. The result is continued boom movement after the operator releases the controls. The recall replaces the adjustable part with a factory-set pressure switch.
There is no warning sign before failure. Treat any boom movement after the controls are released as a failure condition, and keep operators clear of the boom path until the repair is complete.
Who's affected?
The scope runs from the 1999 through 2014 model years, with the same equipment category listed for each year.

What's the safety risk?
In cooler temperatures, an improperly set hydraulic pressure transducer can allow unintended boom movement, which increases the risk of injury to the occupant or people nearby. Keep bystanders clear, stop using the boom if it moves unexpectedly, and schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Altec dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 1999-2014 Altec Aerial Device is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Altec dealer to schedule the free pressure-switch installation that corrects the hydraulic backpressure setting and helps prevent inadvertent boom movement.
- Bring the recall notice if Altec mailed one, and reference recall number 14V745 when you call.
- Avoid operating the aerial device in cooler temperatures until the pressure-switch repair is complete.
- Call Altec customer service at 1-205-991-7733 with questions about scheduling or equipment use before the repair.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Altec technician replaces and installs the pressure switch tied to the hydraulic tank circuit. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. Altec has a general reimbursement plan on file, so if you already paid for the same pressure switch repair before the recall work, ask Altec customer service how to submit documentation for review.
