What's wrong?
The electric power steering module controls the assist that helps you turn the wheel while the vehicle is operating. It reads steering input and powers the electric steering assist so the driver does not have to supply all of the steering force. On these 2015 Suburban, Yukon, Tahoe, Silverado, and Sierra vehicles, that module is the part at issue.
The problem is inside the EPS circuit board. Diodes on some boards were the wrong parts because they were sorted incorrectly before the modules were built, and those modules were supplied by Nexteer Automotive. A diode directs electrical flow through the circuit. With the wrong diode installed, the module can stop providing power steering assist during operation.
If power steering assist is lost, the vehicle still has manual steering, but the wheel requires more effort. The driver information center displays a message, and a chime sounds to tell the driver that power steering assist has been lost.

Slow down, use extra steering effort, and schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Chevrolet dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Chevrolet technician replaces the power steering assist motor kit tied to the electric power steering problem. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. A separate reimbursement notice is not planned because all involved vehicles are covered under the new vehicle warranty. If you already paid for related steering work, ask the Chevrolet service desk how the warranty applies to that prior repair paperwork.
