Mack is recalling 381 2015 Chu, Granite (Gu), and Pinnacle (Cxu) trucks because the seat belt attachment bolts were not torqued to spec. If those bolts loosen and the belt detaches, the seat belt will not properly restrain the occupant in a crash; Mack dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The seat belt anchorage on the 2015 Mack Chu, Granite (Gu), and Pinnacle (Cxu) trucks is the bolted connection that fastens the belt assembly to the seat frame. In a crash or hard stop, that connection has to hold the belt in position so the restraint can keep the occupant against the seat.
On the affected trucks, the bolts that attach the seat belt to the seat frame were not tightened to the required specification. Mack traced the problem to a torque tool that was out of calibration, so the tool did not apply the intended clamping force. With normal vibration and seat movement, an under-tightened bolt can loosen over time. If the anchorage lets go, the seat belt can detach from the seat frame instead of restraining the occupant as designed.
There is no warning sign before failure. A belt that looks normal can still have an anchorage bolt that was not tightened correctly.
Who's affected?
Covers three 2015 Mack truck models, all tied to the same seat belt component.

What's the safety risk?
A loose seat belt mounting bolt can let the belt detach from its mounts. In a crash, the belt will not properly restrain the seated occupant, increasing injury risk. There is no listed warning sign before the problem is found. Schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Mack dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2015 Mack Chu, Granite (Gu), or Pinnacle (Cxu) is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Mack dealer to schedule the free seat belt mounting-bolt tightening, which keeps the belt attached to the seat frame.
- Bring the recall notice if Mack mailed one. If not, reference recall number 14V553 when you call.
- Avoid using any seating position with a loose or detached seat belt until the repair is complete.
- Call Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586 if the dealer cannot confirm the appointment details.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mack technician checks the seat belt mounting bolts at the seat frame and tightens them to the required specification. Parts and labor are covered under the recall, so the dealer repair is free. If you already paid for seat belt mounting bolt work before the recall notice, Mack's general reimbursement plan addresses those expenses case by case. Bring repair invoices and proof of payment to the service desk, or contact Mack customer service using the recall notice instructions.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 14V553?
Recall 14V553 covers 381 2015 Mack Chu, Granite (Gu), and Pinnacle (Cxu) trucks with seat-belt mounting bolts that were not tightened to the required specification. Loose bolts can let the seat belt detach from the seat frame. Mack dealers will tighten the bolts for free.
What should I do if my 2015 Mack Chu, Granite (Gu), or Pinnacle (Cxu) is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 14V553. If it is, contact a franchised Mack dealer to schedule the seat-belt bolt inspection and tightening. Reference recall number 14V553 or Mack recall SC0383 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Mack dealers will tighten the affected seat-belt mounting bolts free of charge. Mack began this recall in October 2014, so the dealer repair is available now.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is that the seat belt can detach from its mounts in a crash. If that happens, the belt will not properly restrain the seat occupant, which raises injury risk. If your VIN is included, schedule the free dealer repair before putting the truck back into regular service.
What if I bought my Mack truck used?
The free repair still applies. Recall repairs follow the vehicle, not the original owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your 2015 Mack Chu, Granite (Gu), or Pinnacle (Cxu) is included, then call a franchised Mack dealer and reference recall 14V553.
