What's wrong?
The power takeoff, or PTO, on the 2011-2012 Super Duty F-550 lets auxiliary equipment draw power from the truck's drivetrain. A pressure switch on that PTO assembly monitors oil pressure in the PTO system. Nearby, a thermal blanket covers part of the exhaust to contain heat and protect surrounding components.
On affected trucks, oil can leak from the PTO pressure switch. Instead of staying sealed inside the PTO assembly, the oil can drip or spray onto the thermal blanket around the exhaust. The exhaust area runs hot, and the blanket is meant to manage heat, not absorb oil. That puts leaking oil against a hot component and creates a repair that needs dealer attention.
There is no warning sign before failure. Owners should not rely on a smell, warning light, or visible drip to know that the PTO pressure switch has started leaking.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific truck.
What's the safety risk?
Leaking oil can soak the thermal blanket over the exhaust. Exhaust heat then raises the risk of fire. Until the switch kit is installed, schedule the recall repair soon and ask the dealer what to do if you see oil near the exhaust area. Repair will be free at any franchised Super Duty dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2011-2012 Super Duty F-550 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Super Duty dealer and ask when the free pressure-switch kit repair is available.
- Reference recall number 14V491 when you call, and bring the certified-mail notice if you received one.
- Park away from structures until the repair is complete if you see or smell oil near the exhaust area.
- Ask the dealer to install the pressure-switch kit that moves the leaking PTO pressure switch away from the exhaust system.
What happens at the repair
The known dealer remedy is a new pressure switch kit. Once the repair is available, a Super Duty technician installs the kit and moves the PTO pressure switch away from the exhaust system. That placement keeps oil from the switch away from the thermal blanket over the exhaust. The final dealer repair will be free once available. Owners were notified by certified mail on June 10, 2014.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 14V491?
Recall 14V491 covers 3 2011-2012 Super Duty F-550 vehicles with a 6.8L gasoline engine and certain Muncie Power Products PTO assemblies. Oil can leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket over the exhaust, raising fire risk.
What should I do if my 2011-2012 Super Duty F-550 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 14V491. If it is, contact a franchised Super Duty dealer or call customer service at 1-800-311-4778. Ask for the pressure switch kit that moves the switch away from the exhaust system.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the defect repair at no cost, and the recall remedy says dealers install the new pressure switch kit free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for included vehicles.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is fire from leaking oil near the exhaust. Oil from the PTO pressure switch can soak into the thermal blanket over the exhaust, and exhaust heat can ignite that oil-soaked material. The free repair moves the switch away from the exhaust system.
What if I bought this Super Duty F-550 used?
The recall still follows the vehicle. Used-vehicle owners qualify for the free repair when the VIN is included, even if the certified-mail notice sent on June 10, 2014 went to a prior owner. Check your VIN before scheduling service.
