Recall 14V433 affects 133,075 2011 Hyundai Sonata vehicles for leaking brake lines that lengthen stopping distance. Repair is free at any franchised Hyundai dealer.
Hyundai is recalling 133,075 2011 Sonata vehicles because brake fluid can leak from the lines between the master cylinder and Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit. If enough fluid leaks, the brake warning lamp will illuminate and stopping distance will increase, which increases crash risk; the dealer repair will be free once Hyundai makes it available.

What's wrong?
The 2011 Hyundai Sonata uses brake lines to carry brake fluid from the master cylinder to the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit, or HECU. The master cylinder creates brake pressure when you press the pedal, and the HECU helps route that pressure through the hydraulic brake system.
On the recalled Sonatas, the problem is at the connection between the inner brake hose and the metal brake line fitting. The seal at that joint is not tight enough, so brake fluid can leak from the two brake lines that connect the master cylinder to the HECU. A brake system depends on sealed lines to hold pressure, so a leak weakens the system's ability to deliver that pressure where it is needed.
There is no warning sign before failure. Because the defect is inside a sealed brake-line connection, the driver does not get a clear early sound, light, or visible change before the leak begins.

Not every 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan is on the list. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific sedan is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the brake lines leak enough brake fluid, the warning lamp will illuminate and the Sonata will need more distance to stop, increasing crash risk. Treat a brake warning lamp as a reason to slow down, avoid extra trips, and call a Hyundai dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Hyundai dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2011 Hyundai Sonata is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Hyundai dealer to ask about the free brake-hose replacement that fixes the brake-fluid leak and longer stopping distance risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Hyundai mailed one, or reference recall number 14V433 when you call.
- Watch for a brake warning lamp, allow extra stopping distance, and schedule service before regular driving.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Hyundai technician replaces the brake hoses with revised service parts. Hyundai's filing says the recall began in September 2014 and that the repair is free of charge. Because the current repair status is not listed here, confirm campaign 14V433 with a Hyundai dealer before planning the visit. Once the repair is open for your VIN, parts and labor are covered. Have the service desk reference Hyundai recall 122 when checking the vehicle.
