2008-2010 Dodge Vans/Journey Recall 14V373: Ignition

Recall 14V373 affects 722,705 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, Journey, and Town And Country vehicles for ignition-switch shutoff. Repair is free at any franchised Dodge dealer.

Dodge is recalling 722,705 2008-2010 Grand Caravan, Journey, and Town And Country vehicles because road conditions or another jarring event can move the ignition switch out of the run position. If the engine shuts off, air bags, power steering, and power braking lose power, raising the risk of a crash or injury, and Dodge dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The Wireless Ignition Module is the part that reads the key and keeps the ignition in the run position after the engine starts. On 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, Journey, and Town And Country vehicles, that module works with the plastic key FOBIK. While it stays in run, the engine and safety systems, including the airbag system, remain powered.

On included vehicles, road shock or another jarring event can move the ignition switch out of run. When that happens, the engine turns off and the airbag system no longer has normal power for safe operation. The repair replaces the Wireless Ignition Module and plastic key set with a newer supplier design.

There is no warning sign before failure. Until the recall repair is complete, the filing tells owners to remove all items from the key ring and leave only the ignition key.

Who's affected?

Covers Grand Caravan, Journey, and Town And Country vehicles across the 2008, 2009, and 2010 model years; both the air bag system and ignition switch are included.

A matching year and model does not confirm inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific vehicle.

What's the safety risk?

If the ignition key moves into OFF or ACCESSORY while driving, the engine turns off and key safety systems lose power, including air bags, power steering, and power braking. That loss increases crash risk and injury risk in a crash. Schedule the dealer repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Dodge dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, Journey, or Town And Country is included in this recall.
  2. Contact your nearest franchised Dodge dealer to schedule the free ignition-switch and key-FOB replacement that keeps the engine from shutting off if the key moves out of run.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Dodge has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 14V373 when you call.
  4. Keep only the ignition key on the key ring until the repair is complete; remove the key FOB and all other items.
  5. Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Avoid extra weight on the key ring and contact the dealer again if the engine shuts off while driving.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Dodge technician replaces the ignition switch and key fobs covered by the recall. The replacement parts and labor are free. Until the repair is complete, keep the key ring limited to the ignition key and remove the key fob from the ring. Dodge's standard reimbursement plan covers documented expenses for related ignition switch or key fob repairs paid before the recall notice. Keep prior repair paperwork and ask the service desk or Dodge customer service how to submit it.
