Recall 14V335 covers 325 1993, 1994, 1995, 2006, 2008 Mci 102DL3 and D4505 motor coaches for driveshaft detachment. Free repair at Mci dealers.
Mci is recalling 325 1993, 1994, 1995, 2006, and 2008 102DL3 and D4505 motor coaches because the driveshaft can detach from the transmission and escape its containment bracket. The separated driveshaft can strike trailing axle steering parts, unlock the steering and caster locking systems, and cause loss of steering control; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The driveshaft on the Mci 1993, 1994, 1995, 2006, 2008 102DL3 and D4505 motor coaches carries turning force from the transmission toward the drive axle. It is a heavy rotating shaft, and the containment bracket is meant to keep it controlled if it separates.
These buses have a driveshaft with a compressed length of 30 inches or less, a steerable trailing axle that changes the tag axle wheel angle in reverse, and no electronic stability control. In that setup, the driveshaft can detach from the transmission and get past the bracket meant to contain it. Once it separates, the driveline is no longer connected where it should be, and the loose shaft is not contained by the bracket.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver should not count on noise, vibration, or a dashboard warning before the driveshaft separates.
Who's affected?
Spans the 102DL3 and D4505 coach lines, with each listed model year tied to the same driveline component.

| 1994 Mci 102DL3 | driveline |

The listed year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.
What's the safety risk?
A driveshaft that escapes containment can strike trailing axle steering parts and unlock the steering and caster locking mechanisms. That can lead to loss of steering control and a higher crash risk, so schedule the recall repair soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Mci dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 1993, 1994, 1995, 2006, or 2008 Mci 102DL3 or D4505 motor coach is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Mci dealer or Mci customer service to ask about the free driveshaft-containment repair.
- Schedule the secondary driveshaft containment hoop installation, which helps keep a detached driveshaft from striking the trailing axle steering parts.
- Bring the owner notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 14V335 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and keep the coach out of service if steering control feels abnormal.
What happens at the repair
Mci's filed remedy is for the dealer to add a secondary drive shaft containment hoop ahead of the tag axle support structure. That hoop is meant to help keep the drive shaft contained if it separates from the transmission area. The dealer repair will be free once available. Ask the Mci service desk to confirm that the repair applies to your exact coach and to document the containment hoop work on the repair order.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 14V335?
Recall 14V335 covers 325 Mci 102DL3 and D4505 motor coaches with a driveshaft that can detach from the transmission and escape its containment bracket. Mci dealers add a secondary drive shaft containment hoop forward of the tag axle support structure for free.
What should I do if my 1993, 1994, 1995, 2006, 2008 Mci 102DL3 or D4505 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific motor coach is included in recall 14V335. If it is, contact a franchised Mci dealer to schedule the secondary drive shaft containment hoop repair. Reference recall number 14V335 and Mci recall number 414 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to perform recall repairs at no cost. Mci dealers add the secondary drive shaft containment hoop free of charge, and the recall repair has been open since August 7, 2014.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is loss of steering control. If the driveshaft escapes containment, it can strike the trailing axle tie rod and locking system components, unlocking the trailing axle steering and caster locking mechanisms and increasing crash risk.
What if I bought this Mci motor coach used?
The free repair still applies. Recall eligibility follows the VIN, not the current owner or where the coach was purchased. Check your VIN to confirm whether the coach is included, then give the dealer recall number 14V335 and Mci recall number 414.
