Recall 14V283 covers 1,705 2010-2015 Peterbilt trucks for side airbags disabled without a warning lamp. Repair is free at Peterbilt dealers.
Peterbilt is recalling 1,705 2010-2015 579, 388, 384, 367, 365, 348, and 337 trucks under recall 14V283 because a blown seat ECU fuse can disable the side air bag without turning on a warning lamp. Without that warning, a driver can keep operating the truck, raising injury risk in a rollover; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
These 2010-2015 Peterbilt 337, 348, 365, 367, 384, 388, and 579 trucks use a seat electronic control unit, or ECU, to help manage the side air bag in the seat area. The ECU receives power through an electrical circuit and tells the air bag system when that seat-related protection is available. A warning lamp is supposed to alert the driver when the system has a fault.
In affected trucks, an interruption of power to the seat ECU disables the side air bag. The filing gives a blown fuse as the example of that power loss. The fault is not only that the air bag is disabled. The warning lamp does not turn on, so the driver is not told that the side air bag is unavailable.
There is no warning sign before failure. The truck can appear normal from the driver's seat, with no warning lamp showing the side air bag problem.
Who's affected?
Covers 7 Peterbilt model lines from 2010-2015, and the included trucks are tied to both the air bag system and electrical system.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
The side air bag system can have a fault without warning the driver. That lets the truck stay in service while side air bag protection is not ready for a rollover, increasing the risk of injury. Confirm the VIN and schedule the harness repair. Repair will be free at any franchised Peterbilt dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2010-2015 Peterbilt 348, 384, 388, 367, 365, 337, or 579 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer and ask whether the free side-air-bag electrical-harness repair is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 14V283 when you call, and ask the dealer to confirm the repair corrects the seat ECU power-loss issue that disables the side air bag warning lamp.
- Bring the recall notice if Peterbilt mailed one to you.
- Drive with extra care until the repair is complete, because a disabled side air bag leaves no warning lamp before a rollover crash.
What happens at the repair
The source remedy says Peterbilt dealers install a new electrical harness for the seat electronic control unit circuit, free of charge. Because the remedy status is not listed, confirm availability before arranging service. Once available, a Peterbilt technician installs the harness so an interruption in power to the seat ECU does not disable the side air bag without a warning lamp. Parts and labor are covered under the recall.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 14V283?
Recall 14V283 covers 1,705 2010-2015 Peterbilt 348, 384, 388, 367, 365, 337, and 579 trucks with a side air bag electrical issue. If power to the seat electronic control unit is interrupted, the side air bag can be disabled without a warning lamp.
What should I do if my 2010-2015 Peterbilt 348, 384, 388, 367, 365, 337, or 579 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 14V283. If it is, contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer and ask for recall 514-F. The dealer installs a new electrical harness to correct the side air bag issue for free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to fix the defect at no cost, and Peterbilt dealers install the new electrical harness free of charge. Reference recall 14V283 or Peterbilt recall number 514-F when you call the service desk.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is that the side air bag system can be disabled without a warning lamp. The driver can keep operating the truck without knowing the side air bag will not deploy in a rollover, increasing the risk of injury.
What warning signs should I watch for?
The filing says there is no warning lamp to alert the operator when this defect disables the side air bag. That is why the VIN check matters. The year and model narrow the recall, but the VIN confirms whether the specific truck needs the free harness repair.
