2014 Autocar Xpert Recall 14V130: Intake Sensor Freeze

Recall 14V130 affects 7 2014 Autocar Xpert trucks for intake sensor interference from frozen condensation. Authorized Cummins service facilities update the ECM for free.

Autocar is recalling 7 2014 Xpert trucks because condensation in the intake manifold can freeze in cold weather and interfere with the intake manifold pressure sensor. That sensor problem can raise exhaust temperatures or create flames from the exhaust pipe, which raises the risk of fire or burn injury; Autocar dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The intake manifold on the 2014 Autocar Xpert with certain Cummins Westport ISL G or ISX12 G engines directs air into the engine so fuel can burn correctly. The intake manifold pressure sensor reads air pressure in that manifold and sends that signal to the engine controls. The engine uses that reading to manage how it runs.

In affected trucks, condensation can collect inside the intake manifold. In cold weather, that moisture can freeze around the pressure sensor or its sensing path. When ice interferes with the sensor, the engine controls no longer get the correct pressure reading, so the engine is not operating from the information it was designed to use.

The recall record does not list a driver warning sign before this sensor problem occurs. There is no warning sign before failure.

What's the safety risk?

The sensor problem can raise exhaust temperatures or send flames from the exhaust pipe, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire or burn injury to someone near the pipe. Keep people clear of the exhaust area and schedule the free ECM calibration soon. Repair is free at any franchised Autocar dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2014 Autocar Xpert is included in this recall.
  2. Contact an authorized Cummins service facility to schedule the free ECM calibration update that fixes the intake pressure sensor issue.
  3. Call Autocar at 1-765-489-5499 with questions, and reference recall number 14V130 when you call.
  4. Bring the recall notice if Autocar has mailed one, or give the service desk the recall number when scheduling.
  5. Avoid standing near the exhaust pipe while the truck is running until the ECM calibration is complete.

What happens at the repair

The recall repair is available through an authorized Cummins service facility and is free of charge. At the service visit, a technician uploads a new ECM calibration for the affected engine. That software update changes the engine control module programming so the intake manifold pressure sensor can keep working correctly in cold weather conditions where condensation freezes. Parts and labor are covered under recall 14V130. Call the service desk with your VIN and ask whether the ECM calibration for your 2014 Autocar Xpert has already been completed.
