Recall 14V107 affects 124 2014 International Prostar trucks for incorrect axle shafts. Repair is free at any franchised International dealer.
International is recalling 124 2014 Prostar trucks under recall 14V107 because some rear axle shafts are the wrong length and only partially engage the differential side gears. Partial spline engagement can damage the axle shaft or side gears, stall the truck on the roadway, and increase crash risk; International dealers will complete the repair free of charge once available.

What's wrong?
The rear axle shafts on the 2014 International Prostar carry engine power from the rear axle differential out to the wheel ends. The splines are the machined teeth at the inner end of each shaft, and they lock into the differential side gears so power moves through the axle without slipping. On trucks with feature code 14GXP 6X2 rear axles, 'R' hubs, and Dual Track rear axles, that spline engagement is the critical fit.
In the recalled trucks, the axle shafts installed in production are the wrong length. Because the shafts do not match the axle setup, the splines only reach partway into the side gears instead of seating across the full designed contact area. That puts drive torque through a partial connection and leaves the axle assembly outside its intended design.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver should not expect a dashboard light, noise, or feel change to confirm the axle shaft problem before the dealer inspects and repairs it.

What's the safety risk?
Partial engagement can damage axle shaft splines or side gears. If those parts fail, the truck can lose power to the drive wheels and stall on the roadway, increasing crash risk. Schedule service promptly and use caution until repaired. Repair will be free at any franchised International dealer once available.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an International technician replaces the incorrect wheel hubs and axle shafts with the correct parts. The technician also checks the rear axle differential side gears and replaces any damaged side gears found during the repair. International listed the recall repair as free of charge, with the owner notice process beginning on March 18, 2014. If the dealer still has to order parts or confirm campaign handling for your VIN, parts and labor remain covered once the repair is available.
