Recall 14V030 affects 548 2005-2013 Eldorado buses for battery equalizers or converters that can burn. Repair is free at franchised Eldorado dealers.
Eldorado is recalling 548 2005-2013 Axess, E-Z Rider Ii, and Passport buses under recall 14V030 because Sure Power battery equalizers or DC-DC converters use an epoxy sealing compound that can conduct electricity after heat exposure. Once conductive, the material can melt and burn, and that increases the risk of a fire; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The affected 2005-2013 Eldorado E-Z Rider Ii, Axess, and Passport buses use Sure Power battery equalizers or DC-DC converters in the electrical system. These units help manage electrical power between battery circuits so lights, controls, and other equipment receive steady voltage while the bus is operating. The inside of the unit is sealed with an epoxy material called potting compound, which is meant to insulate and protect the electrical parts.
In the recalled units, that potting compound does not stay fully insulating after heat exposure. Once the material conducts electricity, power can travel where it should not inside the equalizer or converter. That creates an internal electrical fault instead of keeping the current contained in the intended circuit.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner or operator should not rely on a light, sound, smell, or change in drivability to confirm that this electrical part has started to fail.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.
What's the safety risk?
When the affected material becomes electrically conductive, it can melt and burn, increasing the risk of a fire. Schedule the recall repair soon, and stop operating the vehicle if heat, smoke, or a burning odor appears. Repair will be free at any franchised Eldorado dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2005-2013 Eldorado E-Z Rider Ii, Axess, or Passport bus is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Eldorado dealer to ask whether the free equalizer or converter replacement is ready for your bus.
- Schedule the free equalizer or converter replacement that removes the heat-exposed electrical part linked to fire risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Eldorado mailed one. If not, reference recall number 14V030 when you call.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Eldorado technician replaces the Sure Power battery equalizers or DC to DC converters that contain the affected potting compound. The recall remedy states that this work is free of charge. Eldorado began the recall on February 15, 2014, so ask the service desk to confirm the open campaign and parts handling for your VIN before the bus is brought in.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 14V030?
Recall 14V030 covers 548 2005-2013 Eldorado E-Z Rider Ii, Axess, and Passport buses with Sure Power battery equalizers or DC-DC converters. Heat can make the potting compound conduct electricity, which can lead to melting or burning and increase fire risk. Eldorado dealers replace the affected parts for free.
What should I do if my 2005-2013 Eldorado E-Z Rider Ii, Axess, or Passport is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific bus is included in recall 14V030. If it is, contact an Eldorado dealer and ask for the free replacement of the Sure Power battery equalizer or DC-DC converter. Reference Eldorado recall number EQ-14-002 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Eldorado's remedy says dealers will replace the affected equalizers or converters free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for buses included in recall 14V030, regardless of where the bus was purchased.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is fire. The recalled Sure Power components contain potting compound that can become electrically conductive after heat exposure. Once conductive, the material can melt and burn. If your VIN is included, arrange the free dealer replacement.
What if I bought this Eldorado bus used?
The recall still applies to the bus if its VIN is included. Used ownership does not remove the free repair path. Check your VIN, then give the dealer recall number 14V030 and Eldorado recall number EQ-14-002 when scheduling the replacement.
