2014 Kenworth Chassis Recall 14V013: Seat Belt Buckle

Recall 14V013 covers 10,414 2014 Kenworth and Peterbilt chassis with IMMI L9 seat belt buckles that unlatch poorly. Dealer repair is free.

Kenworth is recalling 10,414 2014 T880, T680, and related truck chassis equipped with IMMI-brand L9 seat belt buckles. A latch plate that stays partly engaged after the release button is pressed can make the belt hard to unlatch, hinder emergency exit, and increase injury risk; Kenworth dealers will complete the repair free once it is available.

What's wrong?

The seat belt buckle on the 2014 Kenworth chassis in this recall is the latch point that locks the belt around the driver or passenger. The latch plate, the flat metal tongue on the belt, slides into the buckle and holds until the release button is pressed. That lock-and-release action has to work cleanly so the belt can be removed when the occupant needs to get out.

On affected chassis, the IMMI-brand L9 buckle does not always let the latch plate release cleanly. When the button is pressed, the latch plate can stay partly caught in the buckle instead of coming free. That partial engagement makes the belt difficult to unlatch and means the seat belt assembly does not meet the federal standard for seat belt assemblies.

There is no warning sign before failure. The problem shows up when someone tries to unbuckle the belt and the latch plate remains partly engaged or takes extra effort to release.

Who's affected?

Covers multiple heavy-truck model lines that share the same seat belt component.

A matching 2014 model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.

What's the safety risk?

A seat belt latch plate that stays partly engaged after the release button is pressed can slow exit from the vehicle and raise injury risk during an emergency. If the buckle does not release cleanly, stop using that seating position and schedule the inspection. Repair will be free at any franchised Kenworth dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2014 Kenworth truck is included in this seat-belt-buckle recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Kenworth dealer to ask about the free seat-belt-buckle inspection and replacement that fixes the buckle latch issue.
  3. Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 14V013 when you call.
  4. Ask the dealer whether your truck needs Kenworth campaign 14KWC or Peterbilt campaign 114-B listed on the repair order.
  5. Plan extra time if the seat belt is difficult to unlatch, since a stuck buckle can slow exit from the cab in an emergency.

What happens at the repair

The known dealer fix is an inspection of the IMMI L9 seat belt buckles. At the dealer, a Kenworth technician checks whether the buckle releases normally and replaces any affected buckle that needs replacement. Parts and labor are covered under the recall once the dealer repair is available for your VIN. If the buckle is hard to unlatch before the repair, tell the service desk when you schedule the visit.
