Vintage is recalling 4,212 2007-2013 Cargo, Outlaw, Crystal, Bandit, Aero, and Intimidator trailers equipped with Fastec-brand door locks because the key can be removed in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the interior lock jams, a person inside can be locked in and forced to use the emergency exit; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?

The door lock on affected 2007-2013 Vintage Cargo, Outlaw, Crystal, Bandit, Aero, and Intimidator trailers uses a deadbolt to hold the entry door shut. The deadbolt is the metal locking piece that slides into the door frame when you turn the key. When it works correctly, the key turns the lock cylinder, moves the deadbolt, and then comes out only after the lock is in a normal position.

On these trailers, the Fastec-brand lock allows the key to come out in a position that jams the deadbolt. Once the deadbolt is jammed, the lock cylinder no longer moves the bolt the way it should. The door lock then fails as a release point, leaving the door unable to open normally from that lock.

There is no warning sign before failure. The problem happens during key removal, so the first sign is a deadbolt that will not retract when the key is turned again.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific trailer.

What's the safety risk?

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock can jam too. A person inside the travel trailer can be locked in and forced to use the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury. Schedule inspection and replacement promptly. Repair will be free at any franchised Vintage dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2007-2013 Vintage Cargo, Outlaw, Crystal, Bandit, Aero, or Intimidator trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Contact Vintage customer service at 1-800-233-5455 to arrange the free Fastec door-lock inspection and cylinder replacement that fixes the deadbolt-jam risk.
  3. Reference recall number 13V482 when you call, and ask how Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement.
  4. Bring the trailer keys and any owner notice to the inspection so the Fastec-brand door lock can be checked.
  5. Keep the emergency exit clear until the lock repair is complete.

What happens at the repair

At the repair visit, a Vintage technician inspects the Fastec door lock cylinders on the affected trailer doors. Fastec coordinates the work, and any lock cylinder that needs replacement is replaced free of charge. The record does not list a current remedy status, so confirm the repair path with Vintage before arranging service. The dealer repair will be free once available, and parts and labor are covered under the recall.
