Recall 13V439 affects 16,107 2008-2013 International Transtar, Lonestar, and Prostar trucks for misrouted fifth-wheel air lines. Repair is free at any franchised International dealer.
International is recalling 16,107 2008-2013 Transtar, Lonestar, and Prostar trucks equipped with an electronic fifth wheel jaw release system because air lines at the isolation/vent valve were assembled in the wrong orientation. If air leaks at that valve, the fifth wheel jaw can release the trailer from the tractor, increasing crash risk; the International dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The electronic fifth wheel jaw release system on 2008-2013 International Transtar, Lonestar, and Prostar trucks helps release the trailer connection from the cab-controlled system. The fifth wheel jaws lock around the trailer kingpin, and the air-controlled release system moves those jaws only when the release command is given.
On affected trucks, the air lines at the isolation/vent valve were installed in the wrong orientation during assembly. That valve is supposed to direct or vent air pressure through the release system in a set path. With the lines reversed, the air signal does not move through the valve the way the system was designed to work.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner or driver is not given a clear light, sound, or handling change that confirms the air lines are routed incorrectly before the fifth wheel release system is used.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific truck.
What's the safety risk?
Improper air line routing can let an air leak at the isolation or vent valve release the fifth wheel jaw. That can separate the trailer from the tractor and increase crash risk. Schedule inspection and routing correction soon. Repair will be free at any franchised International dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2008-2013 International Transtar, Lonestar, or Prostar is included in this recall.
- Contact International customer service at 1-331-332-1590 to confirm the current repair path for recall number 13V439.
- Ask a franchised International dealer about the free air-line routing inspection and correction that helps prevent the fifth wheel jaw from releasing the trailer unexpectedly.
- Bring the recall notice if you have one, and reference recall number 13V439 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the inspection is complete, and stop using the truck for trailer hauling if the fifth wheel jaw release system acts abnormally.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an International technician inspects the air line routing at the isolation/vent valve for the electronic fifth wheel jaw release system. If the lines are routed incorrectly, the technician corrects the routing. The source remedy says this work is free and that the recall began on October 10, 2013. Because the current remedy status is not listed as available, confirm the repair opening and parts handling when you schedule service. The dealer repair will be free once available.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 13V439?
Recall 13V439 covers 16,107 2008-2013 International Transtar, Lonestar, and Prostar trucks with an electronic fifth wheel jaw release system. Incorrect air line routing at the isolation/vent valve can let the 5th wheel jaw release and separate the trailer from the tractor.
What should I do if my 2008-2013 International Transtar, Lonestar, or Prostar is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 13V439. If it is, contact a franchised International dealer and ask for the air line routing inspection. If the routing is wrong, the dealer will correct it for free. Reference recall 13V439 and Navistar recall 13514 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. International dealers will inspect the air line routing and correct it free of charge if the affected fifth wheel jaw release system was assembled with the wrong routing.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is trailer separation. If air leaks at the isolation/vent valve and the air lines are routed incorrectly, the 5th wheel jaw can release unexpectedly. That can separate the trailer from the tractor and increase crash risk.
What if I bought my International truck used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the VIN, not the first owner. Check your VIN to see whether your specific Transtar, Lonestar, or Prostar is included, then call a franchised International dealer with recall 13V439 and Navistar recall 13514.
