Recall 13V392 affects 113 2009-2014 Spartan K2, Mm, and K3 motor home chassis for ABS valve interference. Repair is free at any franchised Spartan dealer.
Spartan is recalling 113 2009-2014 K2, Mm, and K3 motor home chassis because contact with the steering relay rod can fracture the ABS modulator valve and stop air from reaching an affected wheel end. The defect can increase stopping distance or make the vehicle pull to one side, which increases crash risk; the Spartan dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The ABS modulator valve on 2009-2014 Spartan K2, Mm, and K3 motor home chassis is part of the air brake anti-lock braking system. It controls air pressure to the brake at each wheel position so the system can reduce wheel lockup during hard braking. In normal operation, the valve has to stay sealed and intact while the steering linkage moves nearby.
On these chassis, the steering relay rod can contact the ABS modulator valve. That contact can crack or fracture the valve body. Once the valve is fractured, air pressure is not applied to the brake at that wheel position, so that brake does not receive the air it needs when the driver presses the pedal.
There is no warning sign before failure. If the valve fractures while driving, the driver can notice a change in braking response from the affected wheel position only after the part has already failed.

What's the safety risk?
Reduced braking performance can lengthen stopping distance or make the vehicle pull to one side, which increases crash risk. If the vehicle pulls during braking or needs more room to stop, drive cautiously and arrange service soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Spartan dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2009-2014 Spartan K2, Mm, or K3 chassis is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Spartan dealer to ask whether the free ABS modulator valve repair is open for your VIN.
- Schedule the ABS modulator valve reorientation and spacer installation that keeps the valve clear of the steering relay rod.
- Bring the Spartan notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 13V392 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Leave extra following distance and stop using the vehicle if it pulls to one side while braking.
What happens at the repair
Spartan says this recall began on September 17, 2013. At the dealer, a Spartan technician reorients the ABS modulator valve so it no longer contacts the steering relay rod, then installs spacers to add clearance around the valve. The dealer work is free under the recall. The repair is meant to prevent the valve from fracturing and blocking air from reaching the affected wheel end. Ask the service desk to confirm the chassis is included by VIN before the appointment.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 13V392?
Recall 13V392 covers 113 2009-2014 Spartan K2, Mm, and K3 motor home chassis. Contact with the steering relay rod can fracture the ABS modulator valve, stopping air from reaching the affected wheel end. Spartan dealers reorient the valve and install clearance spacers for free.
What should I do if my 2009-2014 Spartan K2, Mm, or K3 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific chassis is included in recall 13V392. If it is, call a Spartan dealer to schedule the ABS modulator valve repair. The recall began on September 17, 2013, and the dealer repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Spartan's remedy says dealers will reorient the ABS modulator valve and install spacers for additional clearance free of charge.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is longer stopping distance or the vehicle pulling to one side during braking. Recall 13V392 ties that risk to a fractured ABS modulator valve that stops air from reaching the affected wheel end, increasing crash risk.
